Het voorwerp op de computer krijgen / Getting an image of your object in the computer

  • Maak een foto of een scan van je voorwerp, zo recht van boven als mogelijk zodat je een goed bovenaanzicht hebt, en dat de achtergrond duidelijk verschilt
  • Take a picture of your object, from above. Keep it in the middle above your object to reduce the perspective distortion. The background should have a good contrast with the object.
  • Open de foto in Inkscape
  • Open the picture in Inkscape
  • met Path > Trace bitmap kun je de foto omzetten in een vector tekening, probeer de threshold waardes zo in te stellen dat je voorwerp er goed uitkomt
  • Use Path > Trace bitmap to convert the image to a vector drawing. Try tweaking the threshold values a bit to get a better result
  • Verwijder de afbeelding, zodat je de vector overhoudt
  • Remove the original image, leaving the vector image behind
  • Verwijder de ongewenste artefacten die er in zijn gekomen bij de Trace bitmap bewerking
  • Remove all unwanted artefacts that may have popped up in the Trace bitmap operation
  • Groepeer de losse lijnen die je nu hebt van je voorwerp
  • Group the separate lines that you now have in your drawing

  • Keep in mind that your are working with sticker foil, floating pieces like the circle in an 'O' will be difficult to apply properly. We have special foil available in the Fablab to help with this, but it will still be a pain to get them in place
  • Teken met vectors, de foliesnijder begrijpt alleen vector lijnen
  • Always draw with vectors, the foil cutter can not understand anything else

  • You can fill your objects, but when you are going to send it to the cutter, it's recommended to remove all fill and convert the lines to black

Het aansturen van de foliesnijder / Using the foil cutter

  • Zet je bestand op een USB stick, of zet het op internet zodat je er op een andere computer bij kunt.
  • Save your file on a USB stick, or a place on the internet where you can access it on another computer
  • Open het bestand in Inkscape op de computer naast de foliesnijder (de zwarte Lian Li kast)
  • Open the file in Inkscape on the computer next to the foil cutter (the black Lian Li case)
  • Draai het geheel eventueel, zodat de kortste zijde horizontaal is
  • The shortest side should be horizontal, rotate your object if it isn't
  • Zet de foliesnijder aan, er zit een schakelaar op de linkerkant
  • Turn the foil cutter on, there is a switch on the left side
  • Leg de folie in de foliesnijder, druk alle klemmen waar e folie onder zit aan
  • Place the foil in the cutter, apply pressure with all clamps that have foil under it
  • (de kleur maakt niet uit als je gaat verven)

  • Ga naar Extensions>Inkcut
  • Go to Extensions > Inkcut
  • Selecteer bij properties de USB0 serial, dat is de foliesnijder
  • Select USB0 serial in properties, that is the foil cutter
  • Je kunt nu de opdracht versturen met 'send' en vervolgens op play te drukken
  • You can now send your cutting task by pressing 'send', and then 'play'

Het aanbrengen van de folie / Applying the foil

  • Knip het stuk folie los van de rol
  • Cut the foil you are going to use from the rol

  • You can now slowly pull of your foil. Remove the pieces you don't need with your nails, or a small knife

  • The foil is now ready to be placed on your object. Again, do this carefully to get a good result.
